Madeline, Great image! On the reason for bending over: I suspect it is the same reason as I observed in Prague where the beggers actually kneel on the ground with their heads on the pavement with arms extended. It is a declaration of being "unworthy" to receive help, or an expression of "Shame" in asking others for help. Much different from our domestic street people who ask for money here.

Ann, thanks. I do not know why the beggars walk around bent over. I have to do some research. If anyone knows, I would appreciate the info. The subservient position makes it even more heartbreaking.
